This article covers how to apply for a new provider number with medicare for a new site

If you want to apply for an initial provider number with Medicare, or if you already have a provider number and want to apply for an additional one then this article will guide you through the whole process.

Applying for an initial provider number

Before you apply, you need a Provider Digital Access (PRODA) account to access Health Professional Online Services (HPOS). If you don’t have one, register for PRODA online.

Then follow the steps below to set up your HPOS access:

1. Log on to HPOS using your PRODA account.

2. Select My Details.

3. Select My provider numbers.

4. Select Create a new provider location.

5. Complete the questions in the application and select Submit location.


Applying for an additional provider number

1. Log on to HPOS using your PRODA account and elect My details, then My provider numbers

2. Select Create a new provider location and read the privacy note

3. Select Next to provide address details

4. Select Next to provide contact details

5. Select Next to provide your organisation’s details

6. Select Next to provide banking details

7. Select the acknowledgement checkbox

8. Select Next to provide declaration if relevant

9. Select Submit location.

💡You'll be able to see your new provider number instantly

💡It's recommended you wait 2 business days before you submit claims with the new number

💡Your bank details for the new location will be pending if someone creates a new location on your behalf. You’ll need to access My banking details in HPOS to approve these
